Talk:Colbert 2006 speech
From The Top 10
This version has bracketing speech by Amy Goodman, an introduction-leadin plus a de-introduction at the end.
After "contempt for these people", currently the end of the transcript, followed in this version by Goodman's statement of what the viewers just saw, Colbert continued with "I know how to handle these clowns. In fact, sir, I brought along an audition tape and with your indulgence, I'd like to at least give it a shot. So, ladies and gentlemen, my press conference." Whereupon the videotape rolled.
After which he said
STEPHEN COLBERT: Helen Thomas, ladies and gentlemen. Mr. Smith, members of the White House Correspondents Association, Madame First Lady, Mr. President, it's been a true honor. Thank you very much. Good night!

The transcript used in the article is an inferior version. As the above commenter noted, it does not include the complete text of Colbert's monologue. Worse, it doesn't have the transcript of the video that Colbert played. Both of these are in the Daily Kos diary the above commenter cites (yes, I wrote it). You needn't take my word that my transcript is superior. Dan Froomkin of washingtonpost.com wrote, "Daily Kos blogger Frederick seems to have the most extensive transcript of Colbert's talk." I would substitute the superior version of the transcript for this inferior one, but seemingly I can't edit this article as I would a regular Wikipedia page.
